Separated Couple Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz Have Lunch Together with Son

Last week, Ashlee Simpson surprised a lot of people when she filed for divorce from her husband of two-and-a-half years, Pete Wentz. Even more surprising is that the couple had lunch together with their son Bronx on Valentine's Day, proving that the split was indeed amicable.

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that while the couple is not reconciling, their priority is being good parents to their son Bronx, 2. The source also mentioned that Simpson is still staying at her parents' home.

The source is quoted saying, "They just had a meal together with their son. They're both focused on making this transition as easy as possible for him."

At the time of filing for divorce the couple had said through their spokesperson, "We remain friends and [are] deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority."

When Simpson filed for divorce the reason cited was "irreconcilable differences." But a source close to Simpson revealed that the real reason was that the couple simply married too young and weren't ready to balance their demanding work schedules with family life.

"It was honestly a classic case of marrying young, having a kid young and growing apart over the years," says the source.

Simpson and Wentz married in May 2008, when Ashlee was 23 and Pete was 28. Their son Bronx Mowgli Wentz was born in November 2008.

Simpson has kept a low profile to focus on raising her 2-year-old son, but she's missed working and being in the spotlight. "Ashlee was the one with Bronx a lot of the time, and that's a lot," the source says. "Ashlee loves being a mom, but she also loves being a performer, and she wants to badly get back to that
